NEW THIS WEEK:

Camacho American Barrel-Aged!

Camacho Cigars never disappoints when a new release hits the boards, and their latest is no exception! The first offering in their new Master Built Series (which “centers on the fusing of our masters with those in other categories…in this case, bourbon makers,” according to Davidoff marketing director Dylan Austin) is a real knockout: The American Barrel-Aged, a hearty blend featuring Connecticut broadleaf, Pennsylvania maduro, and one leaf of Honduran corojo which has been aged for five months in a charred oak bourbon barrel. The wrapper and binder are also Connecticut broadleaf, which lends a rich, earthy flavor to the mix. The overall profile is one of peppery oak (possibly a result of the barrel-aging process; some whiskey flavor is detectable, despite the fact that only one leaf has been treated in this fashion) rounded out by mild caramel and just a smidgen of fruity sweetness (cherry or plum, perhaps), though the adjective that most readily comes to mind is “woody.” And this woody is a goodie!

We stock all three sizes: Robusto (5″ x 50), Toro (6″ x 50), and Gordo: (6″ x 60). Come by and get a taste of the latest summer cigar from our friends at Davidoff!

ALSO NEW:

La Palina Pasha!

New from the masters at La Palina, the Pasha is the newest entry in the Family Series Miami (so named because these latter-day reissues of La Palina’s original Family Series blends are being crafted at the legendary El Titan de Bronze factory in Florida, which also produced the incredibly popular Goldie). The cigar itself – developed by El Titan master Aixa Vazquez, along with input from Willy Herrera – is a 7″ x 50 Churchill with a wrapper of 1998 Ecuadorian Corojo, a binder of Ecuadorian Habano, and Nicaraguan fillers (from the Esteli and Jalapa regions). The flavor is primarily one of cedar and cashew, with elements of coffee and a touch of citrus. Each cigar is individually packaged in a wooden coffin.

We’ve got two boxes on hand, and they’ll go fast…so come by and give your regards to the Pasha ASAP!

Don’t Forget:

Pittsburgh Pipe Club meets this Saturday, July 11th!

At 10:00 am (though chances are good the boys will be here early), the monthly meeting of the Pittsburgh Pipe Club will commence! Join us for the fun – and theDrew Estate/Tsuge raffle drawing! And speaking of pipes…

This week we will visit another offering presented in the Drew Estates Gods Series,Fujin (The Wind God).

Fujin is a blend of air-cured Burley, Perique, Virginias, and dark-fired Kentucky leaf. You’ll note that the word “pussycat” appears nowhere in that description; in fact, it’s more like a Bengal tiger, if we are to talk about strength of blending leaf.

Full disclosure here: I’ve smoked a small amount from one of our samples and — Here’s the thing. I love dark-fired Kentucky…it just refuses to love me back. I enjoyed the smallish bowls that I did smoke and found it to be a rather complex blend that allows the Virginias, the Perique, and the dark-fired to take center stage as it progresses. The burley keeps everything balanced, and occasionally I got the nutty flavor fresh off the burley.

Highly recommended for those that like stronger, more robust pipe mixtures or even as a good nightcap smoke after a hearty meal. I’d guess a good bourbon or scotch would pair well with Fujin. Don’t forget: there’s only a little time left to get entered to win the Tsuge pipe by Drew Estate which will be raffled off on Saturday, July 11. Good luck to all who have a ticket in the jar!

My rating for Fujin: Four and half pipes. Puff On!
