Hot from the annual IPCPR trade show comes Fred Rewey‘s latest creation, which is a real knockout! The Therapy line from Nomad Cigar Company is a trio of extremely flavorful blends, each available in two sizes: Robusto (4½” x 50) and Toro (6″ x 50).Therapy Connecticut features a wrapper of Ecuadorian Connecticut, a binder of Mexican San Andrés, and Nicaraguan fillers; Therapy Habano is a delicious combo of Ecuadorian Rosado, Nicaraguan habano from the Jalapa region, and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers; and the Therapy Maduro has a wrapper of fine Pennsylvania Broadleaf, a Habano Jalapa binder, and pure Nicaraguan filler.

All three are outstanding and affordably priced, two great reasons to try them all and add them to your “Man, That Was Good” list. We have plenty, so come on over and submit to a little Therapy today!

Achilles by Curivari!

A fine cigar from Andreas Throuvalas‘s Curivari, the Achilles is a 5¼” x 50Nicaraguan puro that is one of the more potent offerings from that company. This truly pleasant blend of tobaccos produces a roasted-nut flavor with elusive notes of cinnamon, caramel, and cedar… definitely a medium-range smoke in terms of complexity, though it does pack a little more nicotine punch than most Curivaris. An excellent treat for a summer night! If you haven’t yet tried one, treat yourself to an Achilles next time you’re in and see what you’ve been missing!

This week we’ll get back to the Golden Virginias. The warmer weather begs for a milder, sweeter pipe tobacco, and Orlik’s Golden Sliced – easily one of the most popular flake tobaccos on the market – fits the bill perfectly.

Upon opening, the tin presentation reveals neatly arranged golden-brown, uniform flakes with some yellow flecks intertwined. The tin note is that of fresh hay and (if you concentrate hard enough) stewed fruit. The moisture content is nearly perfect; regardless of whether you load a whole, folded flake or rub it out partially or fully, it really is an idiot-proof smoke (I should know).

OGS takes the light easily, and first impressions deliver a hay-like, grassy note with a subtle sweetness up front. As the bowl develops, the richer, fuller flavors waft in and out without becoming too heavy or overpowering. All in all, OGS is a lightweight in the nicotine department. Also, there’s been an ongoing debate as to whether there’s a splash of Perique in the blend, though I’ll leave it to you to decide.

A very satisfying blend to savor with a cool beverage while kicking back on a hot day. I’m handing out a full 5 pipes to this pleasant old standby. Puff On!
