A new release from the venerable Rocky Patel, the Sun-Grown Maduro is an outstanding blend of Nicaraguan fillers and binders (yes, “binders” plural… the cigar is dual-bound) within a flavorful wrapper of sun-grown Connecticut broadleaf. Botanically speaking, sun-grown is the diametric opposite of shade leaf; just as shielding the tobacco plant from sunlight (typically under tarps of cheesecloth) produces thinner, lighter leaves with a milder flavor, exposure to direct sunlight forces the leaf to become thicker, more resilient, and more rich in nutrients (which translates to stronger flavor and potency).
The broadleaf wrapper on the Sun-Grown maduro is wonderfully dark and oily, adding a delicious dash of cocoa and spice to the savory caramel and earthy notes of the fillers.
