ASW Weekly Email – August 13th, 2014

THANK YOU

To all of you who took the time to send your comments to the FDA regarding their ridiculous ideas in terms of policing the sale of tobacco products. Hopefully this grassroots effort (which resulted in nearly 82,000 public comments nationwide) will have some effect on the policymakers who apparently don’t smoke pipes or cigars themselves… (Yeah, RIGHT! Is that a box of Cubans on your desk…?)

And now, without further ado, let’s move on to the new stuff because there’s a lot of it!

NEW THIS WEEK:

The AMERICANA from J. Fuego!

Two spectacular new arrivals from Jesus Fuego have just come in, and believe me, you don’t want to miss either one.First up is the Americana, which flew in under the radar a few months ago in an inconspicuous little 5-pack. They’ve finally arrived in serious cigar form, and OMG…are these GOOD.

Get a load of this combo: A wrapper of Pennsylvanian Sun Grown Broadleaf; a binder of Costa Rican Cuban Seed Corojo; and Honduran Corojo and Nicaraguan Criollo fillers. Holy crap, is this a delightful blend! A hearty smoke that offers nothing but serious flavor from stem to stern…a real finger-burner (because you won’t want to put it down!). Construction is solid as well, providing an even burn and good draw all the way through.

We’ve got them in all four vitolas: the 5″ x 50 robusto, the 6″ x 54 toro, the 7″ x 58 grande and the 5″ x 44 Originals (sold in a five-pack). Get these while you can, because cigars of this quality (and price!) won’t be in the humidor for long!

J. FUEGO, PART 2:

HEAT!

Once you’ve gotten a taste of the Americana, give one of these babies a whirl: The Fuego Heat is another incredible concoction by the talented Jesus and his team at Tabacos S.A., one that rivals the Americana in both complexity and value. This time, we’re treated to the “slightly more than medium” blend of Honduran corojo wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian fillers. Not as spicy as its name would suggest, though certainly a bit bolder in flavor. Imagine a rich, juicy steak in cigar form and you’ve got some idea of Heat’s instant appeal.

We’ve got them in four sizes: Corona Gorda (4 1/2″ x 46), Robusto (5″ x 50), Toro (6″ x 54), and Grande (5 1/2″ x 60).

Also priced well within the bounds of affordability, these little devils are sure to be a big hit. Come on dahn and enjoy the Heat before summer’s out!

NEW FROM CAMACHO, PART 1:

The B. G. Meyer Standard Issue!

Here’s an interesting new addition: The B. G. Meyer Standard Issue is the brainchild of Rob Weiss, a producer and screenwriter best known for his work with HBO (Entourage, How to Make It In America) who was recently drafted by Camacho as a brand ambassador. His debut cigar is a medium-bodied Nicaraguan puro incorporating an Estelí binder, fillers from Estelí, Jalapa and Ometepe, and a nice, dark habano wrapper. The result is an extremely pleasant smoke with notes of hickory and cedar, with a mild hint of cinnamon sweetness and a peppery retrohale. Good stuff!

We have two sizes available: the 5″ x 50 Robusto and the 6″ x 50 Toro. Either one is sure to please.

Rumor has it that Weiss has a follow-up cigar called “Slacker” in the works already, so check out the Standard Issue first and see what it’s all about!

LOS CAMACHOS NUEVO, PARTE 2:

The Camacho Ecuador!

We’ve finally received the Camacho Ecuador, a line which is a bold departure from Camacho‘s traditional Honduran puro fare…and an outstanding combination of flavors it is!

From Camacho’s press release:

“The Ecuador Habano leaf is one of the most storied tobaccos in our arsenal, a wrapper unique unto itself in color, texture and aroma. Grown in the rugged and nitrogen-rich soils beneath the towering Andes Mountains…Ecuador Habano is one of the most versatile wrapper leaves in existence.

“This dynamic new blend features an earthy Brazilian Mata Fina binder, a pair of powerful high-priming Honduran tobaccos, and Dominican Pelo de Oro ligero for the filler. From the blast of pepper to the hints of floral and citrus throughout, this cigar delivers a wide range of complex flavors.”

Having sampled a few of these, we can attest to the validity of their statement. It’s a robust blend that really delivers in terms of intensity and flavor. You’ll definitely notice the distinct floral/citrus notes in the habano wrapper. A real powerhouse that would go well with a glass of vodka or gin!

We currently stock four sizes: a 5″ x 50 Robusto, a 6″ x 60 Gordo, a 6 1/8″ x 54 x 42 Figurado, and the 7″ x 48 Churchill. (The 6″ x 50 Toro will be arriving soon, as well.) Stop by the shop and take the Camacho Ecuador for a ride!

Yes, we have Davidoff!

Davidoff Primero Tins now available!

For those of you who have been wondering why we don’t stock a lot of Davidoff cigars, we have a surprise. Five of them, in fact, in a nice little tin. Davidoff Primeros now grace our shelves, in four varieties: Dominican, Nicaraguan, and a maduro version of each.

Constructed of fine short-fill, these little panetelas are a pleasant accompaniment for a cup of joe or a cocktail, lasting just long enough for one to savor the exquisite nuance of their aroma and flavor. (Or as the press release states, “ideal for shorter moments of adventure.”)

Both versions feature an Ecuadorian binder and Dominican/Nicaraguan fillers. The Nicaraguan version utilizes a habano wrapper, while its maduro counterpart is enhanced by Mexican Sumatra; the Dominican variety uses Connecticut Ecuador leaf, and the Dominican Maduro is contained in a straight Ecuadorian maduro.

Anyway, we’ve got plenty of ’em, so load up on a few tins for that special occasion looming in your datebook!

Cohiba Comador Raffle: We Have a Winner!

Yes, we finally drew a ticket out of the fishbowl, and the winner of the spectacular travel humidor is… Deke F.! Use it well, Deke!

On that note, we still have a few tasty Comadors on hand, so come on by and grab them while you still can!

Whew! That was a long one! Now come down to the shop and enjoy a smoke!!
