This week’s Pipe Corner review is focused on a new (to me) Virginia/Perique Flake blended by the German company Dan Tobacco: Tordenskjold Pibetobak.
What that translates to is a brown and golden flake tobacco with a heavenly tin aroma that is rich with that plum-like or stewed-fruit aroma that VaPer smokers crave. Presented in a somewhat loose flake composition, I simply folded and stuffed a pair of flakes into my favorite Virginia pipe bowl and only loosened the pressed flakes slightly before loading.
Keeping the bowl lit was surprisingly effortless, and from the first light this delicious blend was treating me to a surprisingly full-flavored and robust smoking experience. I detected hints of white pepper and fresh-baked bread in this blend.
If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you’d know that I rarely spew out those types of descriptions when discussing a flavor profile, but in this instance, I’ll beg the reader’s pardon: This may be one of, if not the best Virginia/Perique blends I’ve ever had the pleasure of smoking…at least for a blend fresh out of the tin with no significant age on it.
It’s available in 50g tins, and if you love quality tobaccos, I’d suggest grabbing some for your stash, especially the Perique. (If you stop in to our shop and are curious, bring a pipe with you and try a bowl from the sample tin! You won’t be disappointed.)
Five out of five pipes again this week for Dan Tobacco’s Tordenskjold Virginia Slices. Puff On!
